She also founded the Sylvie Hennessy Academy of Esthetics and Spa Therapies offering advanced post graduate skincare education at multiple locations worldwide.
What is the importance of organic ingredients in skincare?A sophisticated skincare product cannot be 100% organic because it would not look nice – it would be yellow in color, have a poor structure and would not be refined. So when you want a refined product you can use organic ingredients but you still need your natural base, from sugar or soybeans for example. I know that Asian women wouldn’t use a non-refined product because they like luxurious-looking goods. Pevonia has combined both of these ideas; it has an organic concept without being completely bio organic and still provides beautiful refined products. However, these ingredients must be extracted in a very sophisticated way. You can’t just take the fruit and put it on your skin. We use pineapple and pomegranate extracts which contain the most wonderful antioxidants. For Asian skin particularly, which tends to be tougher and more resistant, you need this working of molecular structures to penetrate the skin. The secret to a good product, after all, is its formulation.
Spa product is a new yet prospering industry in China, what do you see its future trend? It really takes 10 years to get recognized. One of the reasons why I like the China market is because of Chinese women; they like a quality product that’s going to give results. This is what has encouraged me to work for three years to get the products approved because I know that once they enter China they will become very popular. As Chinese people becoming more concerned about their total well-being, spa lifestyle in China is finding its way. Consumers will pay more attention to the holistic benefits that they can receive in a spa facility and also how they can extend the same lifestyle at home.
What is your expansion plan in China? Are you planning any special products only for the China market? Like other parts of the world, Pevonia will be exclusively offered at professional spas and skincare centers. We will continuously listen to consumers and therapists and improve Pevonia to meet the needs of this market. It is possible that we will launch special products or treatment for China when the market calls. Now, it is the Caviar Line which also happens to be the most expensive!
How do you care for your skin and keep fit in your spare time? If you want to maintain a healthy, youthful and radiant complexion, it should not be something that simply accounts for someone’s spare time. It takes a committed approach to a pre-scheduled time within one’s hectic schedule. If not, it is impossible to properly care for your skin. I start my day with Pevonia Botanica and finish my day with Pevonia Botanica … rain or shine and then ensure my skin is treated to a weekly professional treatment. My regimen coupled with sound eating habits, a fitness routine, and a profound understanding for the irrevocable damage the sun can do to our body’s largest organ, are all instrumental in helping me to maintain overall wellness and a healthy complexion.
